Wilton RWP can trace its history back to 1892 when Ralph P. Wilton, Sr. began working for his uncle at the Susquehanna Casting Company near Wrightsville, Pennsylvania. Half a century later, Ralph P. Wilton, Jr. expanded the family business through other ventures, such as Wilton Products (1940) which made cast iron gifts and the Wilton Brass Company (1955) which initially produced industrial brass, aluminum, and iron castings. In 1963, Wilton Jr developed their proprietary formula "Armetale", a unique aluminum-based alloy, which expanded their line to new products that look just like pewter, but with many advantages. The Armetale products are tarnish resistant, will not crack, chip or dent and retains cold foods cold and hot foods hot, for longer periods and didn't contain lead. The Armetale formula remained a closely guarded family secret until 2010 when the four remaining Wilton brothers sold the business to a Reading foundry owner.
